Sewer Systems Transferred to County Sewer District
Residents to See Net Reduction in 2010 Sewer Charges
Mechanicville -On May 7, 2009, Saratoga County Sewer District No. 1 accepted the dedication of several sewer systems owned by the Central Halfmoon Sewer Corporation in the Town of Halfmoon.
Ownership of the sewer systems servicing the 219 residents of the Olde Dater Farms, Millsop and Ashland Estates subdivisions, as well as the 199 residents of the Oak Brook Commons apartment complex, was transferred to the District in accordance with a longstanding agreement between the County and the sewer corporation.
As a result of the change in ownership, it is expected that the residents of the three subdivisions will see an approximately $100 net reduction in their sewer charges in 2010. This reduction is due to the corporation’s $150 per year sewer charge being eliminated and replaced with the District’s $50 per year collector charge.
The transfer in ownership was delayed for over eight years due to litigation and difficulties the District experienced in obtaining all easements needed to maintain and repair these systems. Through the cooperative efforts of officials from the Sewer District and the Town of Halfmoon all necessary easements were acquired.
The Sewer District is now in the process of acquiring a small number of outstanding easements needed for the Kingsbrook, Halve Maen Manor North and Halve Maen Manor South subdivisions. The Sewer District hopes to acquire these easements before the 2010 sewer rates go into effect.
