Saratoga County Reaches Milestone for new Animal Shelter

Article Date: 10/2/2009

Ballston Spa, NY – On Wednesday, September 30, 2009 the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Saratoga County Animal Shelter. The ceremony took place at the site of the new shelter on County Farm Road in Milton, NY. Chairman of the Board, Supervisor Arthur Johnson (Wilton), turned dirt with Supervisor Frank Thompson (Milton), Chair of the Board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee, other members of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Animal Shelter Supervisor Daniel Butler, Architect Richard A. Campagnola from C.T. Male Associates, PC and John Bishop from project construction manager Bishop Beaudry Construction.

In early September, upon recommendation from the Buildings & Grounds Committee, the Board of Supervisors awarded construction contracts for the new Shelter, which fit in the current project budget of $5.3 million. Three weeks later, over 60 people joined the Supervisors and guests in celebrating the first day of project construction. Those in attendance included County Supervisors, department heads and staff, Shelter staff and volunteers, and members of the Saratoga County Friends of the Shelter. Supervisor Thompson said that “The Buildings & Grounds Committee has worked long and hard to see this project reach this important milestone. I thank them for their efforts and look forward to the day we can see the true completion of the new County Animal Shelter.”

Chairman Johnson said that “The Board of Supervisors has a strong tradition of supporting the great work that Dan Butler and his staff do at the Animal Shelter. The time has come for a new building to support their efforts to offer high-quality services in a friendly, effective & efficient manner. I am thrilled that we are able to join them today to take this great step forward towards completion.”
