Scheduling a Road Test:
Prior to scheduling a road test, it is mandatory that you have a Pre-licensing Course Certificate (issued within past year) or a Student Certificate of Completion (issued within past two years). In addition to having one of the above documents, it is required that you have had a valid NYS Learner Permit for a minimum of 6 months preceding your scheduled road test.

Upon scheduling your road test please have the following ready:

  • 9-digit ID number located on the front of your NYS Learner Permit
  • The number issued on your Pre-licensing Course Certificate or Student Certificate of Completion form
  • Your 5-digit zip code, or zip code of where you plan to take the road test; for example, Saratoga County Road Test is located in Ballston Spa, so the zip code given would be 12020.

The current Saratoga County Road Test Location is in front of 125 Bath Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 (road side is marked with signage).

To schedule a road test: Call (518) 402-2100 or go to https://dmv.ny.gov/schedule-road-test
Note: Road test appointments normally occur within a few weeks of date of scheduling.

Arriving at Your Road Test:
It is important that you have all required documents with you upon arriving at your chosen road test location. This includes: Valid NYS Photo Learner Permit, original Pre-licensing Course Certificate (MV-278) or original Student Certificate of Completion (MV-285), a Certification of Supervised Driving (MV-262) completed by your parent or guardian (if under 18), and a vehicle that you will use during the road test (needs to be insured, in good overall condition, have valid registration, and up to date inspection sticker).

You must be accompanied by a person(s) being 18 years of age or older with a valid Driver’s License to drive the road test vehicle. If you choose to drive to the road test site, you are to be with a person at least 21 years of age that possesses a valid NYS Driver License that is suited for that type of vehicle.
