Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office – Deputy Sheriff

A deputy sheriff is a dedicated law enforcement officer who carries out responsibilities related to the enforcement of state and local laws, ensuring the safety and well-being of the public. Under general supervision, a deputy sheriff provides public safety services including patrol, citizen assistance, investigations, traffic control, and transportation.

In addition to patrol functions, deputies staff specialized units including Marine Patrol, Dive Team, Sex Offender Registry Enforcement, Narcotics Unit, K-9 Unit, Bicycle Patrol, Honor Guard, Project Lifesaver, School Resource Officers, Special Operations Team, and USA (Drone) Unit.

  • Complete Medical/Psych Exam & Drug Screening
  • File Civil Service Application & Fee
  • High School Graduation (or GED)
  • Completion of Physical Agility (see exam announcement)

The NY HELPS-Local program allows Saratoga County to hire qualified employees for certain positions without the need for civil service examinations. Candidates are still required to meet all qualification requirements and new positions are continuously added to the NY HELPS-Local program.
